The Athens Community Council on Aging's Adult Day Care Programs provide quality supportive services for adults with functional impairments in a safe and secure environment. Adult Day Care is designed for individuals who do not require 24-hour institutional care, but are not capable of full-time independent living due to a physical or mental disability. Adult Day Care's respite program helps alleviate both the physical and emotional stress felt by many family members who care for a loved one on a day-to-day basis. Our program allows the caregiver opportunities to run errands, visit with family and friends or just rest at home. We offer three Adult Day Care programs serving the Northeast Georgia area. Our Athens and Winder sites provide medical monitoring, nutritious meals, therapeutic activities, and personal care services five days per week. Our Mobile Program partners with local senior centers and serves Greene, Newton, Morgan and Elbert counties. The Mobile program offers socialization, respite for caregivers, personal care services and nutritious meals. Services: Medical Monitoring Our Athens and Winder sites have a full-time nurse on staff who is able to monitor general health, administer medications, arrange doctor appointments, monitor blood glucose levels and act as a liaison and advocate for the clients and family members within the healthcare community. Therapeutic Activities Our Adult Day Care programs are offered in a stimulating social environment. We offer planned, age appropriate, therapeutic activities which focus on maintaining and improving physical, social, mental, emotional and spiritual functioning. Activities include daily exercise, brainteasers, arts and crafts, discussion groups, music, Bingo, special events, and group outings. Nutritious Meals Each program offers a light breakfast and full noontime meal which is dietician planned and approved. Therapeutic meals are offered for diabetics, clients with high blood pressure, swallowing difficulties and other medical conditions. Our fully trained staff is able to assist individuals who are no longer able to eat independently. Personal Care Services Our programs offer assistance with personal care services such as toileting, oral hygiene, grooming, and skin and nail care. Our Athens and Winder sites are also able to offer assistance with bathing. Staffing Our staff is trained, compassionate, patient, calm, and alert. All of our Health/Activity Aides are First Aid/CPR trained and have gone through Alzheimer's Provider Training offered by the Alzheimer's Association. Each employee must have a thorough background check. Regular inservice trainings are completed to update their knowledge and skill. Our Athens and Winder sites have a full time licensed RN on staff. A licensed RN supervises the Mobile program staff. Activities are supervised by a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and coordinated by a full time Activities Director. Funding Clients may qualify for funding through Medicaid's Community Care Service Program or grants available through the Northeast Georgia's Area Agency on Aging. Funding sources are also available through the Veteran's Administration and private long-term care insurance and are determined on an individual basis. Private pay costs are $10.00 per hour or $50.00 per day for five hours or longer. Transportation The Athens Community Council on Aging provides transportation for clients attending the Athens site who live within a 15-mile radius of the center. Transportation for the Winder site and other clients, who qualify, are provided by Medicaid's non-emergency transportation contract with Logisticare.
