VOLUNTEER The Athens Community Council on Aging could not give the level of service it does without our volunteers. Volunteers are local residents or individuals from surrounding communities. They are men, women, students, homemakers, and retirees. Below is a list of some of the opportunities available at ACCA. Call our Volunteer Coordinator at 706.549.4850 or fill out this web form. If you don't see an opportunity that interest you, she will help you find an area of interest and a schedule that is suitable for your needs. Direct Work With Members and Clients Provide regular visitation or telephone contact to an isolated older person. Assistance for an older person or the caregiver. - Run errands or complete household chores. - Do simple home repairs or weatherize the home. - Do yard work. Assist with transportation to a medical or business appointment or to shopping areas. Deliver meals to homebound persons (11 a.m. on weekdays). Make annual home visits to assist homebound persons to complete applications for Surplus Commodities and the Energy Assistance Program. Deliver Surplus Commodities (food) to homebound persons four(4) times a year. Visit area personal care and nursing homes on a regular basis to assist in monitoring residents' care and to provide education on residents' rights (training provided). Present a program or assist with activities at the Senior Center or the Adult Day Care Center. Indirect Involvement Public Relations Assistance - Speakers Bureau - News Coverage - Photographer - Newsletter preparation Assist with special events such as Open House. Assist with annual fund raising events or the Annual Membership Campaign. Work in the various ACCA offices. - Typing - Recordkeeping Grounds maintenance -- main building and Adult Day Care Center.
